Over the weekend, Indonesian officials carried out an emergency medical evacuation after two passengers aboard a cruise ship off the coast of Aceh Province became seriously unwell.

The individuals, identified as 86-year-old German citizen Hebert Ronald and 43-year-old Yulia, a pregnant Russian woman in her 15th week of pregnancy, were traveling on the Mein Schiff 6, which was heading to Indonesia from Port Klang, Malaysia.

Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency stated that the evacuation followed a distress call from the cruise ship requesting urgent medical help.

Initial medical evaluations onboard revealed that Ronald was experiencing issues connected to high blood pressure and diabetes. Meanwhile, Yulia suffered a nosebleed, which doctors suspected was related to her pregnancy, prompting concern from the ship's medical personnel.

Authorities deployed a rescue team to respond. At the time, the cruise liner was about 7 nautical miles northwest of the local port.

Both passengers were successfully removed from the ship and taken to onshore hospitals for additional care. While updates on their health have not been made public, local officials commended the swift and well-coordinated efforts that facilitated their safe arrival on land.
