Viking has announced plans to introduce its first river cruises in India in 2027 with the launch of the Viking Brahmaputra, a purpose-built vessel that will accommodate 80 guests along the Brahmaputra River.

The vessel, currently under construction and expected to enter service in late 2027, will operate between Guwahati and Nimati Ghat in Assam, as part of Viking’s newly unveiled 15-day journey titled “Wonders of India.”

This itinerary features an eight-day river cruise and a comprehensive land program that includes overnight stays in Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, according to a recent press release from Viking.

“With its rich heritage, deep cultural traditions and fascinating natural wonders, India is a vast and vibrant country that has captured the imagination of explorers for centuries,” said Torstein Hagen, Viking’s chairman and CEO.

“In recent years, our guests have particularly enjoyed visiting Indian ports on our ocean itineraries. We are now delighted to introduce a new way for curious travelers to explore the heart of this phenomenal country, in-depth and in Viking comfort,” Hagen added.

The Viking Brahmaputra will feature 40 outside-facing staterooms, all equipped with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors and private verandas. Onboard amenities will include a spa, fitness center, and an open-air sky bar on the Upper Deck.

The “Wonders of India” cruise-tour will begin and end in Delhi, with hotel accommodations in Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, surrounding the eight-day river sailing—offered in both eastbound and westbound directions.

Guests will enjoy 13 included tours and visits to 10 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Highlights of the itinerary feature iconic landmarks such as the Taj Mahal, Old Delhi, and Jaipur’s Palace of Winds.

During the river portion, travelers will explore Guwahati’s sacred sites, traditional riverside villages, and the wildlife of Kaziranga National Park, home to the rare one-horned rhinoceros and water buffalo. The itinerary also includes a stop at the cultural island of Majuli.

Viking has also introduced optional pre- and post-cruise extensions, offering fully guided packages in Delhi (2 nights), Dubai (3 nights), Kathmandu (4 nights), and Cochin & Mumbai (5 nights).

Travelers from North America booking the “Wonders of India” journey by July 31, 2025, can take advantage of savings of up to $5,000 per couple, plus airfare starting at $999 and a $25 deposit offer.
