Allure of the Seas Marks 15 Years With Royal Caribbean
Allure of the Seas has recently reached 15 years of service with Royal Caribbean International, having been delivered on October 28, 2010.
A sister ship to the Oasis of the Seas, which entered service in 2009, the 220,000-ton vessel was constructed at the STX Europe shipyard in Turku, Finland. Slightly larger than its sister, Allure of the Seas entered service as the world’s largest cruise ship at the time of its debut. Its inaugural season featured voyages to the Caribbean and the Bahamas.
Sailing from Royal Caribbean’s newly opened cruise terminal in Fort Lauderdale, the ship offered seven-night itineraries to both the Western and Eastern Caribbean. Highlights of that first season included calls at Labadee, Royal Caribbean’s private destination on Haiti’s northern coast.
After several years based at Port Everglades, the ship later began operating from additional homeports, including Galveston, Port Canaveral, and Miami.
In 2015, Allure also completed a summer deployment in the Western Mediterranean, with sailings departing from ports in Spain and Italy. Although a planned return to the region in 2020 was canceled due to the pandemic, the vessel made its second Mediterranean deployment this year.
Ahead of launching its seven-night itineraries to France, Italy, and Spain, the ship underwent an extensive refurbishment to update its public spaces and add new attractions.
The $100 million upgrade, completed in April, included the introduction of The Perfect Storm waterslides, new bars and dining venues, and a range of modern enhancements. Additional updates featured new suites located above the bridge, an improved pool deck, and the addition of Royal Caribbean’s Ultimate Abyss dry slide.
Looking ahead to 2026, Allure of the Seas is scheduled to sail from three different homeports: Fort Lauderdale, Galveston, and Miami. The ship will begin the year with weeklong cruises from Port Everglades before relocating to Galveston for a spring season starting in mid-March. In late April, Allure will return to Fort Lauderdale and later move to Miami in late October to operate during the 2026–27 winter season.
