Costa Cruises’ Costa Serena will serve as a floating hotel during the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan, accommodating athletes and officials while docked at Kinjo Pier in Nagoya Port.

The Aichi-Nagoya Organising Committee (AINAGOC) confirmed that it has signed a charter agreement with JTB’s Nagoya Business Division to use the Costa Serena throughout the event. The vessel will be stationed in Nagoya from September 15 to October 6, 2026, coinciding with the Games, which run from September 19 to October 4.

The 114,000-ton Italian-registered cruise ship measures 290 meters in length and features approximately 1,500 guest rooms. Onboard amenities include restaurants, lounges, pools, and a fitness center - ensuring athletes and staff enjoy a comfortable stay.

Organizers opted for the cruise ship arrangement instead of constructing a new athletes’ village, citing efficiency and cost savings. The Costa Serena will serve as a “floating village,” conveniently located near several competition venues around Nagoya Port.

JTB Nagoya, Costa Cruises’ official agent in Japan, will oversee coordination and logistics to ensure smooth operations during the Games.

Roughly 4,000 athletes and officials are expected to be housed aboard the ship, while another 2,400 will stay in nearby temporary accommodations. Shuttle buses will connect both sites to the various sporting venues.

The Costa Serena will offer full meal services, leisure facilities, and essential medical and support amenities - providing the same level of comfort and convenience as a traditional land-based athletes’ village.
