A significant blaze broke out on the containership One Henry Hudson while it was berthed at the Port of Los Angeles on November 21. All 23 crew members on board were confirmed safe, and no injuries have been reported.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said the incident began as an electrical fire below deck at 6:38 p.m. local time. Within an hour, an explosion occurred on the mid-deck, knocking out parts of the ship’s power supply, including lighting and crane controls. A large emergency response followed, with 186 firefighters, hazardous materials units, and marine support teams mobilized.

Because the ship was transporting hazardous materials, all firefighting personnel were required to work in full protective gear with respiratory equipment. Air-quality monitoring teams have been deployed, while marine crews have been cooling the vessel from the outside. The response remains active, and investigators have not yet identified the cause of the fire.

The U.S. Coast Guard has set a one-nautical-mile safety zone around the vessel as a precaution.
