Greek Cargo Ship Niki Runs Aground Near Santa Flavia

The Greek-flagged cargo vessel Niki ran aground on September 11th at Formica Rock, close to Porticello near Santa Flavia, Italy. After two days of pumping efforts to stabilize the ship, the crew was evacuated. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The grounding took place at approximately 6:18 a.m. local time, shortly after the vessel had left Porticello Harbour bound for the port of Ténès. At the time, it was transporting a load of farmed sea bream. Eight crew members were on board, all of whom were confirmed to be unharmed. The vessel itself, however, suffered hull damage and began taking on water.
Rescue operations involved firefighters, a shore-based response team, divers, and a nautical unit. They worked to keep the vessel afloat by continuously pumping water out of the hull.
For safety reasons, the crew was evacuated on September 13th. According to records, the Niki was later towed to the port of Termini Imerese, Italy, where it was anchored on September 14th.
