Heritage Expeditions has announced a new 14-day journey through Indonesia and Borneo, featuring unique wildlife encounters and cultural experiences, including a visit to the renowned orangutan sanctuary at Camp Leakey.

Aaron Russ, the company’s Commercial Director and Expedition Leader, described the new voyage, Indonesia’s Forgotten Islands, as one designed to highlight the incredible diversity, traditions, and heritage of Indonesia’s remote regions.

“This really is an authentic expedition experience; we’ll be sailing well off traditional tourist routes to experience some of Southeast Asia’s most captivating and rarely seen wonders,” Russ said.

The itinerary, sailing from Darwin to Singapore, includes standout experiences such as:

  • Walking among Komodo Dragons
  • Visiting Camp Leakey
  • Snorkeling at Pink Beach

Guests will also have opportunities to dive into pristine coral reefs and trek through seldom-visited jungles in search of exotic wildlife like proboscis monkeys, tarsiers, clouded leopards, sun bears, East Javan langurs, giant squirrels, and the newly rediscovered Wetar Ground Dove.

Beyond wildlife, the expedition offers deep cultural immersion. Travelers will meet the Lamalerans, one of Indonesia’s last subsistence whaling communities on Lembata Island, and witness the centuries-old practice of water buffalo racing on Sumbawa.

Other highlights include Kelimutu National Park, famous for its three volcanic lakes of striking colors, and Satonda Island with its dense jungle and crater lake.

“There really is something for everyone on this voyage, and we can’t wait to share this special part of the world with our guests on this incredible adventure,” Russ added.

The expedition is scheduled to sail from September 8 to 21, 2026, with early bookings made by October 31, 2025, eligible for a 20 percent discount.
